Pulmonology/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine

We provide state-of-the-art care to patients with pulmonary disease, critical illness and sleep disorders. Examples of pulmonary diseases that are managed include:
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive lung disease
- Sarcoidosis
- Typical and atypical pneumonias
- Pulmonary complications of respiratory muscle weakness from neuromuscular diseases
Special expertise is also available for patients with pulmonary complications of transplantation, pulmonary hypertension or those who need chronic mechanical ventilation.
Patients are evaluated and treated as inpatients or in the outpatient clinic. Critically ill patients are cared for in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, which is supervised by our staff. The unit provides state-of-the-art care for patients with respiratory failure and multi-system disease.
The Center for Sleep Medicine provides comprehensive care for patients with all types of sleep disorders and is also under our direction.
The Pulmonary Function laboratory provides measurements of lung volumes, spirometry and diffusing capacity. In addition, cardiopulmonary exercise testing is performed to assess patients with shortness of breath. Staff members are experienced in fiberoptic bronchoscopy and interventional bronchoscopy for diagnosing and treating lung diseases.
We also provide services to Morton Hospital, Winchester Hospital and New England Sinai Hospital, which have strong affiliations with the Division.
